park-royal-railbus DMU

Park Royal Railbus body M79971 at Millerhill on 28 February 1976. This former railbus body was in use throughout the 1970s as a staff bothy on the east side of the up yards. Sadly it was too far gone and full of asbestos to be preserved so it was taken to Patterson's Tip in Glasgow and unceremoniously buried in the ground. Alistair Ness.

101 DMU

Haymarket Depot July 1976. Here's a very different view of Haymarket depot which I guarantee you will not have seen before, a telephoto shot from the roof of my father's office building over a mile away in Canning Street a short walk from Haymarket Station. Many class 101 Met Cams and class 105 Cravens DMUs can be seen as well as four class 25, two class 27s, two class 47s and a single class 40. The shot shows many long gone features such as the coal yard and substantial brick built office building (where the tram line to the Airport now runs) and the bends in the track (long since straightened out) where the former bridge carrying the Caledonian line to Princes Street station went over the top. The Jenners Depository stands out in the background and being a Listed structure of architectural or historic interest is still there, now in use as a self-store facility. Alistair Ness.

128 DMU

Class 128s at Chester station 22 March 1975. I have a choice of three from my log book that day. These should be two from M55993, M55994 or M55995. Update: thought to be 55994 and 55995. Alistair Ness.

I also wish I'd composed the shot better and got the whole of the signals in. Oh well I can always go back another day... Update: closest vehicle now identified as M55995 and M55994. Alistair Ness.
