This is Aldridge Station on 13/05/1963, into which a Park Royal DMU is about to call. Aldridge was the first station east of Walsall on the Sutton Park line to Castle Bromwich, it closed to passengers in January 1965, the line is still open as a freight route and there are persistant rumours that a passenger service may one day return. It will be too late for Aldridge as no trace of it now remains. The rather dramatic shot was taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.
Cold day at Edgbaston. On the canal side at Edgbaston tunnel one of Tyseley's Derby built class 116 DMUs ploughs it's way towards Longbridge with a service from Four Oaks on 09/02/1985. The Birmingham - Worcester canal at this point has a tunnel parallel with the railway tunnel, this is the view from the west portal towards Longbridge. Geoff Dowling.
Two of Tyseley's suburban 3-car units have just visited the fuelling point on 10/02/1985. They had pulled up to the bridge from which the picture was taken and will now move onto the carriage sidings and join the other units to the right of the yard. One of Tyseley's class 116 dmu's wanders along towards University station with the 12.50 Four Oaks - Longbridge service on 10 December 1981. The photograph is at the University of Birmingham and the canal is in the deep sandstone cutting that was hewn out with just picks and shovels when this canal was built. When the water is low it is possible to stand in the canal on little islands of sandstone next to the towpath. Geoff Dowling.

A Metro-Cammell DMU departs from the small station of Hammerwich on a grey 2nd December 1963, it is forming a Burton-upon-Trent to Wolverhampton train. Hammerwich lies mid-way between Lichfield and Brownhills, the station opened in 1845 and closed when passenger services ceased in 1965. It had a substantial house and booking/parcels office, platform accomodation being provided by two differing styles of wooden shelter. Today the station house has been renovated and is still occupied as a private house, some track remains in place but sections of it have been removed. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.
Sleepy Morning at Scarborough. The clock on the tower says 10.55 and a lone four-car Class 110 DMU keeps the railway interest alive on 9 September 1974. To the right is the signal box controlling just the station area, beautiful cast iron abounds and the place is in a very good state of repair. On a Summer Saturday the station was very busy with loco hauled trains arriving from many destinations to this popular resort. Geoff Dowling.
A Blue Square Derby Lightweight DMU in Grosmont station heading in the Pickering direction. Undated, likely in early 1965, passenger services were withdrawn in March that year. Stuart Mackay Collection.
