Plenty of action at Linwood Toll on 26 March 1964. A Pickfords low-loader, a scrapyard (tidied up when the railway bridge was rebuilt in 1962), a bit of roadworks by a red compressor, and a DMU on fire crossing Ferguslie Viaduct heading west for Elderslie station. A Glasgow bound Metro Cammell DMU led by SC51524 emerges from the tunnel and enters North Queensferry on 28 September 1964. Note the excellent condition of the station. Colin Kirkwood.
An Ayr-bound Swindon DMU, (later Class 126) has just passed the Elderslie No.2 signal box and is about to cross over the 'fly-under' line to Cart Junction on 2 March 1965. Colin Kirkwood.
A pristine Derby Lightweight DMU is about to leave Keswick for Workington on 9 April 1955. DMUs were still a novelty at that time, and had only recently replaced the Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-0s. They provided excellent viewing from the front seats. Keswick to Workington closed in 1966, but the station lingered for another six years, served by DMUs from Penrith. Note the red lens over the lower centre marker lamp, in lieu of a tail lamp. Colin Kirkwood.

A local resident watches with interest the unusual sight of a train at the closed station of Denny. The occasion was a tour by the Rail Society of Scotland on 18 October 1969 which had a Metro Cammell DMU with SC51467 as the DMBS. The destination blind shows Glasgow Buchanan Street - earlier on it showed 'Montrose' for some strange reason! Colin Kirkwood.
SC51467 has arrived at Bedlay signal box (closed 1967) on 18th October 1969 as part of a Rail Society of Scotland tour. The ash path across the lines was to allow road access to the M73 motorway then under construction. The lines here closed in 1969, replaced by a new curve east of the M73 giving access to Bedlay Colliery. (The colliery line was out of shot to the left of the box in this view). Colin Kirkwood.
The Rail Society of Scotland Tour of 18 October 1969 has reached Whifflet Upper on the Caley line to Airdrie. The station platform spanned both the line from Motherwell to Coatbridge Central and Whifflet to Sunnyside line. The DMBS in the formation was SC51467. The R. B. Railbus SC79958 enters Lugton station on 3 November 1962, prior to heading to Beith. This would be one of its last runs, as the branch closed the following day. The line to Giffen remained open for goods traffic for some time after that. Colin Kirkwood.
The bright colours of a Class 126 DMU show up well against the backdrop of a rather dark Glasgow St Enoch station on 3 March 1962. It will almost certainly be heading for Ayr, and the 'B' on the front suggests that it will not be an express. Note the attractive speed whiskers. Colin Kirkwood.
Derby Lightweight power car E79035 on display outside the Royal Festival Hall in London for the Aluminium Centenary Exhibition. To the right is a London Underground vehicle. The lack of flags on the flagpoles, scaffolding around the large signage, and the fence under construction suggests this was before the opening of the exhibition which was on the 1st June 1955.
