Withdrawn 59539 (and 59303) at Blackpool North on Thursday 2 September 2004. They had been stored there for several years, and they were due to move that day to their new homes in preservation that. Long out-of-ticket, they had had the axles ultrasonically tested and a Fragonset Class 31 was hired to move them to a nearby 'depot' with a loading point. Unfortunately it was found that there is a tight corner on the way into the depot, with bollards on the pavement which prevented the Allely's lorry from turning. The move was aborted. The council agreed to remove the bollards, and the move was rescheduled for a later date. Paul Moxon.

Last Day No.1. The 08:50 Kilmacolm - Glasgow service (ex. 08:07 from Glasgow via Gilmour Street) crosses the Black Cart Water on the approach to Cart Junction. This is probably 107 435 (with 101 DMS to rear) which was diagrammed on the branch that day. The trackbed and bridge in the foreground is the GSWR route from Cart Junction to Brownhill Junction via Kilbarchan. The Kilmacolm bridge was dismantled and the line breeched by the A737 Johnstone Bypass further north. Most of both routes to the west are now part of the Sustrans National Cycle Route network. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

Last Day No.2. Ghost-like Cravens triple 105 373 approaches Cart Junction on 09:07 Glasgow Central - Kilmacolm service. The DMU is on the 'Up Branch' from Elderslie No. 2 via the fly-under junction. The rising gradient is the 'Down Branch' to Glasgow which trails in at Elderslie No. 2 on the flat. The Canal lines were then accessed at Elderslie No.1 and what was Canal Junction. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

Scrapper. Park Royal Class 103 DMBS M50399 languishes in sidings (on the Up side) to the north of Carlisle Kingmoor Depot. Boarded up, it awaits a final trip for scrap. Surprisingly, the underframe equipment seems relatively intact and an engine is visible on this side. Hopefully the shunters will take notice of the lack of a hand brake! Saturday 09 June 1984. alicia hartman.

Victoria. Six car Class 120 Swindon Cross Country idles away at Manchester Victoria. No sign of any passengers, or train crew for that matter and it is waiting the next turn on a damp afternoon. The screen certainly shows Blackpool and the Cross Country sets were common on this route at the time. Saturday 17 November 1984. alicia hartman.
