Two two-car Class 120s in Sutton Park station. There were no details on the slide other than a process date of April 1969, and this is thought to be the Gilks-Grenside Educational Specials Numbers 4 & 5 on 22 March that originated at Kingston. Closest is set 503, presumably 51579 + 51588, and the other set will be the other Reading Class 120 twin, set 502 (51574 + 51583). Stuart Mackay Collection.

A lone Class 122 (set TY055, presumably M55010) is about to leave Birmingham Snow Hill in February 1972. At this time Snow Hill was a gigantic car park with just this one bay operating an infrequent service to Wolverhampton Low Level. The route is fairly similar to that taken by the Midland Metro, the Wolverhampton end is now street running to a new terminus at St Georges. Geoff Dowling.
Blue DMU days at Whitby Town. 50144, a 1956 Metropolitan-Cammell unit, is waiting to return to Middlesborough from Whitby Town on 08/09/1974. The orange enamel signs are still in place as is the big square wooden post signal. On the hill the Abbey ruin stands guard over the town. The vehicle was allocated to Darlington at the time and seems to have a shed plate on the solebar under the BR logo. Geoff Dowling.
A Tyseley class 116 (set 324) approaches the signal for Lifford Junction on, what is now, the Cross City line. The DMU has the road for Kings Norton, the signals on the right of the bracket govern access to Lifford curve and the Camp Hill line. Circa mid-1960s. Geoff Dowling.
The scene looks timeless with the semaphore signals, gas lamp with wire to adjust the flame, train crew with the driver (seated) wearing his grease-top and enamel signs. The Metro-Cammell DMU, although with small yellow warning panels is in the early blue livery. This is the centre (now disused) platform at Kings Norton and the date would be 1966/67. Geoff Dowling.
"The biggest unstaffed halt in Britain" Snow Hill in 1972 was a massive car park, the only piece of railway was the remnant Birmingham - Wolverhampton service.
