342.  MANCHESTER AREA SCHEME (PART 2). S.E.LANCS.

Noted that financial statement submitted by Mr.Dade does not include expenditure required on maintenance, fuelling etc. installations, and the Chairman requested that the complete report to be ready for the next meeting. Sub-Committee to consider day to day maintenance arrangements.

Mr.Gould said he felt that a depot on the Central Division for the maintenance of diesel units should be established to cover all the schemes in the Central Division (to which the Chairman agreed in principle), and suggested the ex C.& W. Works at Newton Heath as a possibility.

343.  DERBY, NOTTINGHAM AND LEICESTER SCHEME. (PART 1)

Preliminary report noted. Complete report to be ready for consideration at next meeting.

344.  WEST CUMBERLAND SCHEME

(a) Additional units for summer traffic

Noted that Metro-Cammell cannot give earlier delivery of Bury-Bacup units. Mr.Gould said that additional units were required on the West Cumberland area for all periods of the year, and the question was deferred pending the result of Mr.Varley's conversation with Mr.Robson respecting parcels vans. (See Minute 338).

(b) Speed Restrictions

Silloth Branch - Noted that Minute 321(c) should read -

"The speed limit between Carlisle (Canal Junction) and Silloth has been raised to 60 m.p.h. with certain exceptions."

Carlisle - Whitehaven - Mr.Butland said that new speed restrictions for this branch have now been published and Mr.Gould will arrange for advantage to be taken of the higher speeds in future issues of the timetable.

(c) Servicing and Maintenance

Workington - Mr.Butland reported that the work on the offices and repair shop will be completed by the end of February 1956 and in the meantime the temporary arrangements are working satisfactorily.

Carlisle (Upperby). - Mr.Butland reported that the pits have been deepened and the track is being laid. Mr.Forsyth is looking into the question of the lighting of the pits.
