Noted that Nottingham low level station is under consideration for use as a parcels depot and the sub-committee are proposing to inspect three further sites in the district for maintenance depots.
Regarding the use of all power cars for this scheme, Mr.Gould stated that it is not practicable to run diesel parcels vans in this area owing to line capacity and that in order that parcel traffic could be dealt with, it would be necessary for all units to be capable of hauling one tail vehicle. Noted that Messrs.Gould and Larkin are looking into this question from the point of view of fitting the 3-car (M.C. T. M.C.) units with more powerful engines.
Noted that the possibility of a diesel service covering Trowell, Stapleford, Long Easton Section, will be included in the Derby, Nottingham, Leicester (Part 3) scheme.
Mr.Read reported that the question of a halt between Leicester and Coalville is under consideration.
Messrs.Gould and Read said that the possibility of running a temporary diesel service between Blackpool and Preston in connection with the above was under consideration and no difficulty was anticipated in introducing this. Details of the service to be furnished to the General Manager as early as possible.
The Chairman requested that the units for this service should be complete in all respects, i.e. curtains and carpets in first class compartments, feather plume painted on fronts of units etc.
Agreed that similar arrangements to 1955 for diesel service between Birmingham and Castle Bromwhich be made in respect of the Fair for 1956, Messrs.Gould and Read to arrange.
