515.  GENERAL MATTERS OF POLICY   (Contd.)

2.  Programme of Light Weight Diesel operation over the next five years.  (Contd.)

(b)  Report of working party on diesel train main line traction.  - Mr.Gould reported that further schemes are being considered and those mentioned in the Working Party's report will be brought into the investigations as they arise, and it was noted that, in future, more schemes will have to be considered in conjunction with other Regions.

3.  Allocation of units being built at Derby and by contractors

(a)  Revised schedule of allocation attached as Appendix 'B'.

(b)  Revision of requirements of units for L.M.R. scheme.  - Reference was made to the monthly statement now submitted to the B.T.C. showing the number of vehicles actually working in the respective schemes during each period. It was noted that the Accountant also submits a six-monthly return and the Motive Power Department a weekly statement to the B.T.C. giving similiar information, and Mr.Varley will contact the B.T.C. sections concerned with a view to an enquiry being made into the duplication of these returns.

4.  Refreshment services on Cross Country trains

Noted that B.T.C. have been advised the diesel services at present contemplated for L.M.R. will not require this facility but for certain inter-city services a complete buffet car is proposed.  Comment has been made to the B.T.C. that the drawing does not appear to make provision for the storage of supplies and equipment which have to be carried and loose containers would be bound to cause obstruction.

5.  Conveyance of parcels traffic

Three diesel parcels vans are on order for West Cumberland Area, delivery date October 1957.  - Agreed that, in order to preserve continuity of manufacture, B.T.C. be advised that two further vans be required for Manchester Part 2 scheme.  Any further requirements of diesel parcels vans will be included in schemes as they are submitted but Mr.Gould will, without waiting for full submissions, report requirements of any further vans as soon as they are known.
