Three rail buses will operate services on -
Bedford - Northampton line
Bedford - Hitchin line
Services expected to commence on August 11th, and arrangements would be made for vehicle to be available at Bedford for Press inspection and possible special trip at beginning of August.
Financial assessment of scheme now completed and will be circulated.
Mr.Dow reported that case for the withdrawal of the passenger service is now being prepared for submission to the T.U.C.C. concerned.
Noted that, in the event of the rail cars being transferred to the Buxton Millers Dale service, it would be permissible for one through passenger coach to and from Buxton to Millers Dale daily to be hauled by these single units.
The Chairman referred to correspondence between the Secretary General and the Chief Carriage & Wagon Engineering Officer, B.T.C. regarding the design of the vehicles for this scheme; also letter he had received from Mr.Short. Noted that the same type of underframes with 2 x 238 H.P. engines as far as for the St.Pancras scheme would be suitable for this scheme and agreed that Chief Mechanical & Electrical Engineer and Carriage & Wagon Engineer clarify the question of design, including power requirements with the Chief Carriage & Wagon Engineering Officer, B.T.C., and consider the desirablilty of stock being included in 1959 Building programme. General Manager of North Eastern Region to be kept advised.
Noted that final plan has now been sent by Chief Civil Engineer to Director of Traffic Services for approval and that facilities can be made available by November, 1958, provided authority is quickly forthcoming.
