2. Design of units

Improved riding of diesel rail cars

Noted that authority had now been given for expenditure of £6,240 on the modification of the bogies of the six 4-car units on the Manchester (Central) - Liverpool (Central) services.  Mr. Stanley reported that all the drawings had been completed and if the required material could be obtained in 10-12 weeks, the modification could be completed within three months.  It was noted that the Chief Civil Engineer was specially investigating the condition of the permanent way on the Manchester (Central) - Liverpool (Central) line.

3. Allocation of units being built at Derby and by Contractors

Revised schedule of allocation attached as Appendix 'B'.

801. RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

1. Buckingham - Banbury service

Noted that the question of a subsidy for bus services was being dealt with by the General Manager.  Mr. Roberts stated that when the passenger service between Buckingham and Banbury was withdrawn it was the intention to utilise the two rail cars between Buckingham and Bletchley.

2. Bedford - Hitchin - Northampton services

Noted that a proposal for the withdrawal of the passenger service on the Bedford - Northampton line would be submitted to the October meeting of the Area Board.

The proposal for the withdrawal of the Bedford - Hitchin service was still proceeding, the Regional Accountannt now assessing the financial results.

802. SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS

Minutes of meeting of Sub-Committees held on August 18th, 1960

Noted with the following comments:-

Minute 915 - Cricklewood

Noted that C.C.E. and C.M.& E.E. working closely to programme.  Erection of shed would be complete by January, 1961 and all equipment installed by June, 1961.

Minute 917 - Nottingham, London Road Low Level

Noted that proposals now submitted to the General Manager.

Minute 920 - Lostock Hall

Noted that final plan now in preparation and would be complete within ten days.
