These are images from the Swindon Works collection. The NRM now holds the negatives for these, and prints can be ordered from them where the negatives still exist. All the image details are taken from the Works photograph registers or reference prints, also at the NRM.

These were all taken on the 16th February 1963 showing new vehicles.
Negative 5CR 252
The two second class saloons in DMBSL 52090. Each seated just sixteen with two seating bays on each side of the aisle, the (open) sliding door divided smoking from non-smoking.
Negative 5CR 267
A non-smoking second class compartment in DMSKL W52097. The first class compartments sets had modern metal luggage racks (with reading lamps) but second class retained the old string type.

Normally DMU buffet cars were included in the 5C/5CR series with the other vehicles, this class was the exception. All were of 59828 and are undated.
