Last Day No.15. Derby 107 435 returns from Kilmacolm on the 13:01 working to Glasgow Central. It is crossing the Locher Water on the Lochermill Viaduct and heading towards Houston and Crosslee station. Cars on the A761 are visible above the DMU by the fenceline and Ranfurly, on the outskirts of Bridge of Weir, on the hillside beyond. Not sure what the driver has rolled up in the cab - a last day souvenir poster perhaps! Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.
Last Day. Looking west as Derby 107 435 climbs from Cart Junction towards Elderslie on the 11:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow Central working. The Derby (with MC DMS to rear) is on the 'Down Branch' line and the 'Up Branch' is on the left. Poor quality but included for interest. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

This line, the last closure in Scotland which would never happen today, fell because of squabbling between District Council, Regional Authority and PTE funding. Alistair Ness.
Last Day. Children pose for a photographer, perhaps thinking they would 'be in the papers'. No chance, but the news is there wouldn't be any trains on Monday ... or thereafter. The trackbed and bridge in the foreground is the GSWR route from Cart Junction to Brownhill Junction via Kilbarchan. The Kilmacolm bridge was dismantled and the line breeched by the A737 Johnstone Bypass further north. Most of both routes to the west are now part of the Sustrans National Cycle Route network.
