GRC&W Cross-Country DMU set B577 (51091 and presumably 59422 + 51063) seen at Neath with the 10:20 Swansea - Cardiff General service on 11 November 1972. Robert Thomas.
Old Instamatic slides taken probably in summer 1973 at Westbury. This was during the period when the Portsmouth-Bristol trains had been strengthened to six coaches, resulting in WR dmus being drafted in to supplement the Hampshire demus. Closest is Class 119 set B577, presumably 51091 + 59422 + 51063. We were on a Southern Rover and had come out from Salisbury on the dmu to catch the Summer Saturdays only Cardiff-Weymouth which at that time was the only train booked via Chandlers Ford and formed of a Class 47 and Mk 1s. Tony Watson.
The 18.55 arrival from Newquay is seen at Par on 17 August 1976. Formed of a GRC&W Cross-Country set, the closest vehicle with one oval and one 'cut' buffer is presumably 51091. Tom Burnham.
Two dmus at Lydney on 20.03.1968. The one in the up platform (left) is a 120, on the right is a 119 with the closest vehicle thought to be W51091 with an oval and cut buffer arrangement - unusual for the type. Jeff Stone.
Class 119 set B577 (presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091) heads out of Worcester Foregate Street in the late 1960s / early 1970s. Whilst most DMUs went from green livery to blue livery from the late 1960s, Cross-Country (Classes 119 and 120) and Inter-City (Classes 123 and 126) types (including Trans-Pennine Class 124) generally went straight into blue & grey livery, thus they carried this livery with many original fitting such as headcodes (which were normally removed later). Going against the trend, some Scottish region Class 120 and 126 units carried blue livery, whilst some Western region Class 101 units that were deployed on Cross-Country services went straight from green livery to blue & grey, long before the livery became standard for the class. Graeme Phillips Collection.
Class 119 DMU set B577, presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091, at Bradford-on-Avon. The slide process date was January 1973 but the trees suggest this was summer/early autumn of the previous year. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Oval-buffered W51063 at the front of set B577 (presumably with 59422 + 51091) seen in Bridgend with the 10:20 (SO) Swansea-Cardiff Central on 8 December 1973. Robert Thomas.
Class 119 B577 (presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091) is caught working the 08:08 Bristol - Weymouth at Clink Road Jct. one February morning in 1974. Adrian Vaughan.
The Branch Line Society Cornish Clay railtour at Drinnick Mill, Nanpean Siding, on 27 June 1976. It was formed of Class 119 DMU set P577, presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Class 119 DMU set L577 (presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091) is being prepared at Tonbridge for a departure to Reading sometime in 1981. Image taken by John Vaughan. Stuart Mackay Collection.
At this time a strike meant that the few trains running on the Brighton Line were a bit of a mixed bag. This is seen as a 6-car Brighton to London Bridge train leaves Redhill in June 1982 with class 119 car 51063 on set L577 (presumably with 59422 + 51091). Ian Buck.
Occasionally the Reading Gatwick service was diverted via the West London and Brighton Main Line owing to trackworks. On 1st April 1984 Class 119 set L577 with car 51063 leading (presumably with 59422 + 51091) passes Coulsdon North. Ian Buck.
Class 119 Cardiff Canton DMU set C577 (presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091), heads north out of Hereford and past the goods yard on Saturday 7th June 1986. Paul James.
A Class 119 on a Falmouth to Truro service waits to depart from the thankfully reinstated Docks station on 11/7/86. WR set 577 should be 51063 + 59422 + 51091, yet the vehicles were allocated to CF at the time, and had not been Plymouth vehicles since 1977. Stephen Burdett.
A 2-car 119 set (C577 presumably 51091 + 51063) and a Met-Camm enters Cynghordy. Date unknown. Tom Clift.
