Collision involving Class 108 / Class 108

Info from Bill Read

Low speed collision of two Class 108 units. M51913-M54497 and M51418-M59688 (Met Cam 101 centre car)-M53977. 28 passengers required hospital treatment. The driver of the twin unit had passed a red signal. M51418 collapsed upon contact with M51913 and suffered extensive cab, underfloor and bogie damage. All the 108 cars suffered some damage and were criticized as being in poor structural condition. The 101 was undamaged.

Class 108 DMU at Peasley Cross, St Helens

circa 1964

A (blue square) Derby Lightweight twin (M51913 and presumably M56496) thought to be working the shuttle between St Helens Junction and St Helens Shaw Street (now Central). Date unknown, the shuttle ended in June 1965, so the yellow panel dates it to the 1963-5 period. Behind the unit used to be Peasley Cross station which closed in 1951. There are not many passengers on board, and the seat moquette which I can see better on the original scan is the same as that used in the 2nd class of the Marylebone quads (see image 15353) and the Ayrshire Swindon Inter-City sets (image 24623). A DMU formation with Class 108 51913 leading, for Chester at Mickle Trafford Junction, 22-11-83. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.

January 1984

51913 leads a two-car Class 108 DMU rolling into Hale with a Chester service in late January 1984. Chris Thorp.

With a sprinkling of snow on the ground, M51913 sits in CF Booths at Rotherham with much of its interior ripped out and thrown outside. Circa 1991. Robert Frise Collection.

Class 108 DMBS 51913 from LO265 is in the air at the EDU at Derby on the 15th Aug 1991. On the left 53015/55929 is under conversion to 977775. John Reddyhoff.

A Class 108 diesel multiple unit formation passes through Wolverhampton station on what I recorded as an ecs working on 1 September 1984. The individual cars were 51902/54485 + 51913/54497. Lewis Bevan.

The 10.42 Manchester Victoria-Llandudno at Helsby, 9/8/86. The lengthy formation included 51178, 54335, 51180 & 51913 but other vehicle details got lost as the notes were unclear. Anthony Griffiths.

Set number: LO265

Class 108 DMU LO265 cars 54497 + 51913 enter Sleaford station on the 11:39 Skegness to Nottingham service on 20 August 1990. The Met-Camm on the left is thought to be 53201. Two days later LO265 was involved in a low speed head on crash with another Class 108 at Hyde North Junction after passing a red signal. It was repaired and finally withdrawn on 30/05/91.
