A tour was arranged on this day taking class 117 sets L402 (51377 + 59487 + 51335) and L405 (51340 + 59491 + 51381) around all of the many branches that then existed in the London Division of the Western Region. Here the tour is seen at Brentford Town on 30th July 1978. The tour was organised by RPPR, a popular railtour company at the time. Ian Buck.

NSE liveried class 117 DMU set no. L402 (51377 + 59487 + 51335) stands at Clydach-on-Tawe on the freight only branch from Felin Fran East Junction on 25.10.1986. The DMU was working the Monmouthshire Railway Society "Cynheidre Curler" railtour along with sister set L414 visiting freight branches in the Western Valleys of South Wales. The tour being late in the year suffered from poor adhesion on some of the steep goods lines into the valleys and lost a lot of time. At this stage the tour was 40mins late but by the time it had reached Onllwyn washery the next branch RST (Railtour Standard Time) had been passed with the train over an hour late. Adrian Nicholls.
Network Southeast liveried class 117 Diesel Multiple Unit L402 (51335 + 59487 + 51377) calls at Gravelly Hill on the Birmingham cross-city line with a Lichfield -Longbridge train in November 1986. It was not entirely unheard of for Tyseley depot to use visiting DMUs on West Midlands local services. Chris Morrison.

Class 117 2-car unit L707 (51335/51377) has arrived working the 14.50 from Bletchley while Class 319 184 has arrived on Platform 2 with a service from the south. 51335/51377 were built by Pressed Steel in 1960 and were originally in a 3-car set with trailer 59487. They were allocated to Bletchley depot at the date of my photo, and were withdrawn from that depot in May 1998. Both vehicles were scrapped by Sims Metals in Cardiff. 319 184 was one of the second batch of Class 319s, built in 1990. It was converted to a 319/3 (by the removal of 1st class accommodation) in the period 1997-1999 and, as such, is still in service with Northern Trains. Lewis Bevan.
