Out of use vehicles at Thornton in Fife on January 27, 1991. Closest is 59794, which wouldn't be officially withdrawn until the end of the year. It had been transferred on paper to Neville Hill but never moved there. At the far end of the line are 53187, 53179, 51453, 59113, 53424, TDB977223 and 59073. Hamish Stevenson.

101312 heads a rake of 101 units stabled at Thornton Yard in Summer 1988. Bruce Galloway.
Class 110 vehicles on 21st August 1987 in Thornton Fields carriage sidings at Stratford Marsh, looking north from a train on the Great Eastern main line. An image on page 110 of the Brian Morrison DMU book shows two power cars inside Stratford depot the following month, this set could be heading there. Colin Brooks.

A three-car Class 101 DMU at the closed Thornton Junction station in March 1972. Closed on 6 October 1969, two and a half years later not much had changed except for the weeds of course. If you look closely you can see that the footbridge no longer has any steps. 13 year old boys can sometimes be very foolish! But at least I took my camera with me! Alistair Ness.

A three-car trailer brake Met-Camm DMU is seen in Thornton Junction station on 1 October 1969, just a few days before closure. Closest with Leven on the destination blind is DMC SC50158, at the time allocated to Dundee. The vehicle would spend the first 32 of its 35 year career on the Scottish Region. Dundee only had one TBSL at the time - SC59074. Transferred to the Scottish Region in 1966 where it remained - other than a brief spell at Chester - until withdrawal in 1991. Class 101 DMCL SC53179 awaiting disposal at Thornton Junction on 8 December 1990. The exhaust is lying on the ground at the engine end. Withdrawn from Eastfield in September 1988 it would be cut at MC Metals in June 1991. Stuart Mackay.
