A Class 126 at Glasgow Central with SC51017 closest in 1978 or 1979. John Law.
Two Class 126 DMUs, the closest being SC51017 + 59406 + 51033, in the southbound through platform at Ayr on 26 May 1979. Another set, a leading car closest, can just be glimpsed to its right. Stuart Mackay Collection.
This 'intermediate' car (the now preserved 51017) still has it's gangway fitted, and carries a cover once commonly used on the back of hauled stock. The Class 126s generally always ran latterly with the buckeyes permanently raised. Malcolm Clements.
A Class 126 DMSL Sc51017 in one of the bay platforms at the north end of Carlisle station circa 1981/2, forming a service to Glasgow Central via Kilmarnock. The vehicle is now preserved on the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway. Andrew McConnell.
End of Days. The last two Swindon Inter-City Sets are ticking over in Kyle Street Sidings. 126 406 (Sc51017) is nearest the camera and the rear set will be 126 413. Probably a Sunday in Autumn 1982 as the light fades on a dreich afternoon. alicia hartman.
Class 126 DMS SC51017. Seen at Corkerhill, where it was seen as part of set 126 408, circa 1982. The vehicle is now preserved on the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway. Ian MacDonald.
End of Days. Swindon DMSL Sc51017 and 126 406 ticking over at Ayr station. It is sitting in the Bay Platforms, probably having arrived on a working from Glasgow Central. The Station Hotel dominates the background, whilst the through platforms to Girvan and Stranraer are off camera to the left. Probably summer 1982. alicia hartman.
A Class 126 set at Johnstone circa 1981. SC51017 is on the rear, one of the vehicles now preserved at Bo'ness. Andrew McConnell.
A Class 126 set departs from Glasgow Central, probably in 1982, headed by the now preserved intermediate DMS Sc51017. Ian MacDonald.
Kyle Street sidings at Ayr, probably taken in 1982. Two Class 126 DMUs are visible, SC51017 at the front, and a Class 107 on the right. Ian MacDonald.
SC51017 in Glasgow Central station, probably taken in 1982. The Swindon-built DMS, one of six vehicles reinstated after the rest of the Class had been withdrawn and now preserved, was easily identified in its later days by the odd headcode configuration. Ian MacDonald.
51017 is on the rear of 59397 & 51038 departing Glasgow Central on the 9th April 1982. Jerry Glover.
Swindon Inter-City power cars Sc51017 and Sc51043 at Largs on August 1st, 1982. They are now the only surviving Class 126 power cars. John Carter.
Sc51017 and Sc51043 face off in Ayr (Kyle St sidings), August 1982. The vehicles were then part of the last two Class 126 units to survive (126 413 and 126 406). The best example of each type of 126 vehicle from the last two sets were remarshalled to form the now preserved Class 126 unit, 126 413 (Sc51017, Sc59404, Sc51043). Andrew McConnell.
The now preserved Class 126 DMSL SC51017 is seen stabled at Ayr's Kyle Street Sidings on 12 August 1982. Bill Fraser.

Class 126 Hunterston 9 Oct 1982. This tour was organised by the Swindon Preservation Society and used the same name as the previous year's BLS tour doing exactly what it said on the headboard. The class also remained in service for a bit longer than planned after the tour which had been meant to see them being withdrawn from service the following day. Here we see Sc51017 at Hunterston Ore Terminal. Alistair Ness.

The now preserved Sc51017 heading Class 126 Swindon Intercity DMU set 126406 at Kilmacolm on the last weeks in service for both the Swindon and the Branch itself. The guard is carrying the oil tail lamp to the far end of the unit. Experienced Swindon DMU guards would often be seen casually stepping out of the van at a convenient point on the platform of terminus stations to wait for the end of the set to draw to a gentle halt right alongside. A lost art. Andrew McConnell.
End of Days. Late Saturday afternoon and Swindon Inter-City 126 413, with DMSL Sc51017 nearest, idles at Largs on Platform 2. It will work back to Glasgow Central once the crew return and the tail lamp is removed. The high contrast is due due to the low winter sun ... and under exposure! December 1982. alicia hartman.
Class 126 vehicles 51017, 59404 and 51043 pass through Dundee in a freight formation on their way to the Brechin Railway and a new life in preservation in 1983. Andrew McConnell.

End of Days. Swindon Inter-City Sets stored at Ayr Townhead Yard. 126 418 is one of the few with the identity displayed on the DMSL (presumably Sc51025). The DMSL to the right looks suspiciously like preserved Sc51017 which may have been part of 126 408 at that time. Summer 1982. alicia hartman.

It's Not Unusual. Perhaps, but it's a late Saturday afternoon and Swindon 126 413 has deposited a handful of passengers at Largs after arriving on a service from Glasgow Central. DMBSL Sc51043 is nearest the camera with DMSL Sc51017 recorded at the rear. TSL is presumably Sc59404. This is probably the reformed Set 413 (with DMSL swapped from the other remaining operational Set 406) prior to preservation. December 1982. alicia hartman.
On 5 January 1983 the final two Class 126 units are seen in Glasgow Central station. That date the six vehicles (SC51043 closest, the others being 51017, 51026, 51036, 59404 and 59411) were on Kilmacolm duties. That branch closed a few days a later and the Class 126s were withdrawn by the end of the month. Brian Daniels.
