Class 101 and 105 vehicles E56085 E51221 E56459 E51429 E56081 and E51485 call at Heaton on the last day of British Rail services, 10/08/1980. Although situated on the East Coast Main Line, it was one of a number of stations closed across Newcastle and North Tyneside at this time, pending development of the Tyneside Metro system. Heaton station wasn't replaced as part of the Metro system, but the area is served by nearby Byker and Chillingham Road stations. Graeme Phillips Collection.

Longsight allocated Metro-Cammell DMU set 101657 (54085 + 53211) is seen at Rhosgoch heading down the freight only Amlwch branch on the Isle of Anglesey. The short spur leading off to the right which can just be seen through the bushes served a oil storage depot built in the 70's but its use was short lived. E56086 + E50251 with the 11:08 to Newcastle at South Shields on April 4, 1981. The soon to be withdrawn service to South Shields - the line was converted to light rail Metro trains. However, the Metro line stopped short of here with a featureless 'plastic' station being provided instead. A NER tiled map can be seen on the wall on the right, I wonder what happened to that when the station was demolished. John Carter.
