Drivers compartment details, taken in 53253 after withdrawal at Caerwent on January 10, 2004. The red valve to the right of the door is connected to the emergency chain, allowing air into the vacuum system when the chain is pulled. It would also be reset here. Drivers compartment details, taken in 53253 after withdrawal at Caerwent on January 10, 2004. This was the access to the destination blind, hinged at the top and the handle on the right to turn the blind. I took this as this angle so the light would catch the layers of vehicle numbers on the back of this panel, including an early version that started 'Car No'. Stuart Mackay.

The lower black panel included the controls for the marker lights on the cab front, the two hexagonal switches had three positions (up, centre, down) as each marker light had two bulbs. The items above the switches were indicator lamps, now missing their covers, showing the marker lights were on. The silver panel to the right of the switch panel was for TPWS. Stuart Mackay.

Class 101 (50254 + 59303 + 50144) at Brechin on 26 August 1979. The BLS ran the Tayside Railtour a last journey along the branch from Kinnaber Junction to Brechin which started from Dundee on a Sunday morning. Here we are at the buffers of what is now become Caledonian Railway Preservation Society's nicely restored station. Alistair Ness.
On 26 August 1979 the Branch Line Society ran a tour from Dundee to Brechin. This line closed to passengers in 1952 and eventually to all traffic in 1981. In 1993 a small section of the line at the Brechin end opened as a preserved railway. I believe the formation of the train to have been 50254 + 59303 + 50144. Jeremy Chapter.

Middlesbrough at 8:58am on Saturday 02/08/1980, with vehicle E50256 nearest the camera, with a service for Darlington. Its headcode box, by this time defunct, appears unusual, possibly a little smaller than normal, the inner square so black it looks like it may have been painted, without the usual central dividing line.
