104 DMU

February 1972

After the end of steam & into the early 1970s I didn't take many railway photos and the ones I did take were not really planned. This shot of a BRC&W diesel multiple unit at Nottingham Midland station in 1972 was taken on a dark, grey, February afternoon and was badly underexposed. Pete LG99.

104 DMU

May 1972

In the May of 1972 we were lucky enough to go on a school field trip to Colwyn Bay, in my final few months at junior school :) Even luckier for me, the boarding house was a few yards from the North Wales coast main line! Class 40s galore in 1972! Unfortunately, I was still using my primitive Kodak Brownie which wasn't much use for action photos [see my attempted Class 40 shots in the Comments section below]. However, in this instance, it looks like the DMU was stationary! The driver's door is open so I'm guessing the train had been signal-stopped and he'd gone to phone the signalman! So sharp I can just make out the leading coach as M50454 :) The boarding house has been swept away by the A55 now. Chris McKee.

104 DMU

Seen running into Preston on I guess a Manchester to Blackpool service on the 15th of June 1972 is a Class 104 DMU. The KDH Archive.

104 DMU

29th June 1972

Set: EP490

A rare visitor to South Wales, this Derby-based Class 104 unit (M50498 + M59165 + M50446) with what appeared to be an empty stock working though Newport on 29th June 1972. It had previously worked a Derby – Cardiff special. Note the EP490 (Etches Park) set number in the cab window. Jim Sparks.
