A 2-Car Class 104 DMU with M53527 leading, passes Cocker Bar Farm as it runs between Midge Hall and Croston with a Preston to Ormskirk service on May 20th 1983. This was the period when these units had been reduced from three cars with the removal of the unpowered centre trailer car. A Class 104 BRCW twin approaches Preston with the empty stock of the 15:38 Preston to Ormskirk service on Friday 3rd June 1983. The leading vehicle is M53428 is a Driving Motor Brake 2nd originally numbered M50428 but renumbered into the M53xxx series to avoid duplication of numbers. Ormskirk had once been an intermediate station on the main line from Liverpool Exchange to Preston and the north. Electric services were extended from Liverpool as far as Ormskirk in 1913. However, following the re-routing of all long distance services to and from the north into Lime Street, an enforced change of trains at Ormskirk became the norm. Brian McDevitt.
