On 2nd March 1986 a white roofed Buxton based BRC&W class 104 dmu BX484 (M53431, M59137, M53496) has just terminated at Disley, because of Sunday engineering works further down the line, passengers will now cross over and board the GMT "standard" waiting on the A6 to take them to Hazel Grove. The line between Disley and Hazel Grove was closed every Sunday around this time for the construction of the Hazel Grove Cord. Andrew J Crowther.

Complete with a discoloured white cab roof, two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU, formed of Driving Motor Brake Second M53431 & Driving Motor Lavatory Second M53512 was stabled between duties in Croft Street Sidings adjacent to Preston Power Box on May 3rd 1987. The well-worn unit was having an extended period of operation due to the sidelining of the then ailing almost new Class 142 Pacer fleet. The unit would become a spare set at Chester Depot in November 1989 due its poor condition until it was officially withdrawn in June 1990, as new Class 150/2 Sprinters began to appear in quantity from BREL York. Class 104 set N662 (presumably 53431 + 53512) sits in the sidings at Southport on October 1st 1988 as 47 557 departs with vintage VSOE Pullman stock heading for Folkestone and a four-day break in Paris. Martyn Hilbert.
With a BRCW Class 104 DMU formed of cars M53431 & M53512 (N662) stabled in the sidings, Class 150/2 150 211 was departing from Southport with a service for Manchester Victoria on October 1st 1988. 150 211 was one of the batch of 'odd' numbered 150/2's that went new to Newton Heath in 1986/87.
