A Class 105 DMU at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on 15/06/1976, with the 14:16 Hitchin - Huntingdon which arrived at 14:57. Although this is the East Coast Main Line, many semaphore signals are still in evidence. The station is largely unreconstructed at this time - work took place gradually from the mid-1970s until 1988. A Class 105 formation emerges from Gasworks Tunnel with an off-peak terminating arrival, while a Class 55 Deltic sits in the stabling point on 06/08/1976. Class 125 suburban DMUs were used on these services during the peak periods due to the unsuitability of the Class 105s. All the DMUs were either withdrawn (Class 125s) or transferred away (Class 105s) later in the 1970s when the routes were electrified, allowing the use of Class 312 EMUs. Graeme Phillips Collection.
