In blue/grey livery, Cravens Class 105 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) SC51481, was passing through North Queensferry with a six-car mixed rake of DMU cars, bound for Edinburgh on July 23rd 1981. The Cravens is formed into Haymarket set 105376, the other vehicles being Metro-Cammell Class 101 cars. Presumably, the Cravens had been finished in blue/grey to match the rest of the three-car set. SC51481 spent its entire working life in Scotland, it was one of a batch of twenty-two x 2 car Power/Trailer sets supplied new in 1959. It would eventually be withdrawn from service in November 1981 and was scrapped by Mayer Newman at Snailwell, Cambridgeshire in 1982. Martyn Hilbert.

105 372 in Edinburgh Waverley on the 12th February 1983. It has an Ayr depot sticker on the cab front, and what seems to be a white 'experiment' plate on the lower bodyside to the right of the cab door. Stuart Mackay.

Last Day No.4. Cravens 105 373 triple takes the ‘Down Branch’ at Cart Junction on the returning 10:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow Central service under darkening skies. An old notebook suggests this was DMBS E50384 + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464 (nearest camera). Reduced to a single lead, Cart Junction once served routes to Kilbarchan, Kilmacolm, Elderslie and Johnstone. The houses in the background are the outskirts of Linwood. Last Day No.2. Ghost-like Cravens triple 105 373 approaches Cart Junction on 09:07 Glasgow Central - Kilmacolm service. The DMU is on the 'Up Branch' from Elderslie No. 2 via the fly-under junction. The rising gradient is the 'Down Branch' to Glasgow which trails in at Elderslie No. 2 on the flat. The Canal lines were then accessed at Elderslie No.1 and what was Canal Junction. Last Day No.17. Cravens 105 373 crosses the viaduct over the River Gryffe at Bridge of Weir. It is heading east towards the station on the 14:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow Central service. An old notebook suggests this was DMBS E50384 (nearest) + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464. The girder bridge crosses a minor road to the then children's home at Quarriers Village. There was a tannery on the other side of the viaduct which is long gone. However, leather manufacture still exists in Bridge of Weir at a modern facility on the other side of town by the Locher Water. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

Last Day No.12. Looking east and Cravens 105 373 has deposited some passengers, perhaps more so than usual, at Houston and Crosslee station. It is pulling away for the mainline at Elderslie on the 12:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow Central service. The double fence to the left was a footpath connecting nearby Brookfield and the station via a footbridge, from which the photograph was taken. Saturday 08 January 1983 alicia hartman.

The line between Elderslie and Kilmacolm officially closed completely and between Elderslie and Shields Junction to scheduled passenger services on 10 January 1983. Andrew McConnell.

105373, made up of 3 driving vehicles (50384 + 51301 + 56464), pauses at Paisley Canal Station on the last day of operations of the branch, 8 January 1983. The line between Kilmacolm, Elderslie and Shields Junction closed completely to scheduled passenger services on 10 January 1983, although the section to Paisley Canal subsequently reopened and is now electrified. A temporary footbridge replaces the former wooden booking office, which was situated on the road bridge with staircases to each platform. The main station building was converted to a pub. The new station is a single terminus platform on the other side of the bridge. Andrew McConnell.

Single DMBS 50384 is attached to 51301 and 56464 at Kilmacolm on January 8th, 1983. The headboard requires a little bit of explanation - the last two surviving Class 126 sets had somehow managed to escape withdrawal at the time of the line's closure and one of the Swindon Diesel Preservation Society members had contacted BR to enquire if the sets could be rostered for service on the last day. A headboard was knocked up in the hope that something could be arranged. In the event, the Swindons were not rostered and the board seemed somewhat inappropriate, but was mounted for a short time at Kilmacolm for photographs. Andrew McConnell.

Last Day No.23. Cravens 105 373 triple idles at Kilmacolm and is probably waiting to form the 16:01 service for Glasgow Central. An old notebook suggests this was DMBS E50384 (nearest) + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464. This may have been the last daylight departure from Kilmacolm. The masonry wall to the left is the corner of the former goods shed. Whilst the station buildings survived closure as a pub, the goods shed succumbed to redevelopment and was flattened to make way for housing. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

An old notebook suggests the Set was DMBS E50384 + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464. The train is starting to fill up again for the return to Glasgow Central on the 16:01.
