105 DMU

28th July 1984

This Cravens dmu, bearing a "Special" destination blind, was stabled at the back of Doncaster station on 28th July 1984. This was a departmental set, nos. TDB977123/977125. The vantage point for my photograph was the footbridge connecting the station to the locomotive works, which was used on that day for access on the occasion of the Works Open Day. Another Cravens DMU is on the left the DMBS being E51278. Andrew Walker.

North Woolwich branch Cravens, 30/07/84. The unmistakable Stratford Depot adornment of a silver roof gives away the location of this Cravens DMU shot. A 2-car class 105 set is seen approaching North Woolwich with service 2E18 the 09.58 from Camden Road to North Woolwich. Adrian Nicholls.

105 DMU

30th July 1984

A Stratford allocated 2-Car Cravens DMU set is seen waiting departure from the now closed terminus station of North Woolwich with service 2M21 the 10.40 to Camden Road on 30/07/84. This former Great Eastern Railway terminus had become a forgotten backwater during the early 1980's and it wasn't until the advent of Network Southeast the situation improved with the line being electrified as an extension to the North London line third rail network. Its closure on 10/12/2006 was brought about by the close proximity of the Docklands Light Railway in the same area and the fact the route from Royal Victoria Dock to North Woolwich is being used by the new Cross Rail line which would pass under the Thames at North Woolwich. Adrian Nicholls.

105 DMU

25th August 1984

On 25th Aug 1984, instead of chasing 40s across the north-west, I chose to take the only scheduled service that was still booked a Class 40, the Man Picc-Skegness (SO) and return. Here we have reached the loop at Sleaford station behind 40 012 'Aureol', after traversing the single-line curve between Sleaford North and Sleaford West Junctions. A six-car DMU set passes us heading for Nottingham Midland, made up of a 2-car Cravens unit with DMBS power trailer E51288 leading, E54431 behind, and two pairs of Lincoln-based Class 114 Derby Heavyweights.
