Cravens Class 105 2-car DMU 54122+53359 in green livery with whiskers Platform 6 at Cambridge for Peterborough 4-4-88. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.

28th May 1988

This Cravens (54122 + 53359) unit achieved 'star' status in the late 80's when it was re-liveried into early BR Green and attended a number of special events. Seen at Bedford on 28th May 1988 the unit had worked over the Bedford Bletchley branch in connection with the Bedford River Festival and adjacent Railway Gala at Bedford which had attracted Deltics, NSE units and many other one-off's. Norwich based class 105 'Cravens' DMU set no.30 (53359+54122), by this time one of the very few left in passenger service on the network, calls at West Runton whist working a Sheringham-Norwich service on 17th August 1988. This DMU was restored to a retro BR livery with cats whiskers in April 1986 to mark the end of DMU operations on the Anglia Region in the London Area. It was withdrawn on the 03/11/88 and with the unit being considered to have asbestos contamination it went to Mayer-Newman's scrapyard at Snailwell, where it was incinerated in the fire tunnel and reduced to scrap on 23/02/89. The site of the former Cromer Junction which gave access to Cromer High, the first station in the town which opened in 1877, Cromer High was closed to passengers in 1954 and freight in 1960. Here we see a Norwich allocated Cravens class 105 dmu made up of cars E54125 + E53373, with a Sheringham-Norwich service, which calls at Cromer (Beach) and as the name implies is far more conveniently situated in the town. 22nd August 1985. Our train to Sheringham simmering at Norwich on March 15th 1986 with Cravens set E54125 + E53373 numbered set 30. Weeks later it was transferred to Cambridge for DPU use. With the guard walking along the platform, a Cravens Class 105 two-car DMU formed DTCL E56126 and DMBS E50359 was stood at Stratford Low Level after arrival from the terminus at North Woolwich on October 21st 1979. Martyn Hilbert.

Having completed its 11 minute 5 mile journey from Stratford with one intermediate stop at Lea Bridge 2H09 the 16.00 ex Stratford is seen at Tottenham Hale 03/06/85 where it will stand in the down platform before returning back south to Stratford as service 2H14 at 16.26. The origins of this short service go back to the days when the train would have turned left at Tottenham South Junction to call at South Tottenham before taking the now closed Palace Gates branch which lost its passenger service in December 1964. An ex-Eastern Region Cravens Class 105 DMU (the DTC appears to be 56127), was stood in bay platform 3C at Preston with a service to Ormskirk (despite the destination display) on October 22nd 1977. Martyn Hilbert.

5th July 1980

A Southport to Bolton Service formed of a Cravens Class 105 2-Car DMU, with M56127 leading, calls at Meols Cop in the Southport Suburbs on the 5th July 1980. Until September 1964, Meols Cop was the former mid journey reversal point for the electrics that worked from Southport to Crossens on the now closed line to Preston. The intermediate stations between Meols Cop and Crossens, at Hesketh Park and Churchtown that were served by the electrics and also the steam-worked services to and from Preston, were also closed.
