Carrying Bristol set number B973, this is presumably 54267 + 53629 which were transferred to Cardiff about this time. They sit in platform 6 at Crewe station, having worked up from Hereford with the first service of the day. I had worked it up from Hereford and would work it back all stations to Shrewsbury, where I would stable it in Abbey Foregate sidings. The photo was taken sometime between 2nd and 7th May 1988 as I worked the turn for the week. Paul James.
Two-car Class 108 DMU set B974 (presumably 53947 + 54230) seen in Exeter station in late 1987. Michael Mensing.
Class 108 DMU set B974 (54230 and presumably 53947) at Newport with the 09:20 Hereford-Cardiff Central service on 12 March 1988. Robert Thomas.
Mistimed. Of course in retrospect, I should have waited a couple of moments for these alighting passengers to pass before releasing the shutter. It's evening one day in April 1992, and a first generation dmu (set B979, presumably 54260 + 53931) is about to get away from Bedminster station, Bristol. Most likely this is a service for Weston-super-Mare but the destination blind has not been set. That's my Raleigh "Royal" touring cycle leaning against the lamp post when it was brand new. It's still going strong today, but sadly those panniers, which gave many years of sterling service, do not survive. Tom Harper.
Delivered in December 1958, Class 108 DMBS M53626 is stabled outside the Test House at BREL Doncaster Works on the 5th June 1988 after what was probably it’s last General Overhaul. At the time allocated to Buxton MPD as can be seen by the unit code in the window M53626 would be withdrawn from passenger service in October 1991 and renumbered as ADB977745 in service as a Route Learning / Sandite vehicle until finally withdrawn a year later in October 1992 and scrapped by CF Booth, Rotherham during January 1993. Bob Woolnough.
M53626 (presumably with 59144 + 53636) leads a special from Buxton with class 108 and 104 stock seen near Ely West Junction, 18.06.88. Nicholas Youngman.
Set BX371 stands at Buxton Station on 30/12/1988. Individual vehicle numbers were not noted at the time, but the leading car of this 3-car set is believed to be 53925 from the damage above the roller blind. The other cars are believed to be 59155 (centre) and 52039 (driving) Robert Hope.
On 19 April 1988 hybrid (108/104/108) DMU set BX372 (52056 + 59148 + 53930) heads towards Manchester at Bamford. Dave Warby.

This must have been the furthest north a Buxton allocated DMU set worked at the time being synonymous generally with services South of Manchester. 3-car set BX 372 (53930+59148+52056) formed with two class 108 motor coaches and a class 104 intermediate trailer is seen shortly after arrival at Heysham Harbour on 2 June 1988. Set BX 372 having worked "Boat Train" 1P13 the 12.05 Stockport to Heysham Harbour with connection to Douglas on the Isle of Man by way of the IOM Steam Packet Co. Ferry. Adrian Nicholls.
Buxton allocated DMU set BX372 (52056 + 59148 + 53930), a class 108/104 hybrid, stands at the old Morecambe station on the promenade with train 1H51 the 14.55 to Stockport on 02/06/88. This station closed on 07/02/94 when a smaller two platform station opened closer to the town centre but in doing so reduced the length of the branch by 17ch (nearly ¼ mile). Adrian Nicholls.
Class 108/104 hybrid set BX372 (presumably M53930 + M59148 + M52056) departs from Manchester Piccadilly on September 15, 1988. Rex Holt.

A line up of Buxton allocated Derby built class 108's at Buxton on the 20th April 1988, with the one on the left making a smokey departure from platform 2, the destination blind unusually showing Oxford Road, all services at this time apart - from an early morning sevice to Irlam - terminated at Manchester Piccadilly. On the right is set BX374 (presumably 51568 + 59183 + 51935) and in the middle BX373 (presumably 53932 visible), the set on the left carries no set number. Andrew J Crowther.
