The 'Dalesrailwayman' headboard being attached to E50287 at Skipton on June 6th, 1982. This was a special from Skipton to the end of BR track on the former Grassington Branch. Scheduled for three returns, the last trip was cancelled when a deluge caused a landslide. John Carter.

Honley, West Yorkshire 30th December 1982. On a grey mid-winter day, Honley station, opened in 1850 on the ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway line from Huddersfield to Penistone, plays host to two first generation diesel multiple units. Ours is heading for Clayton West station on the branch from Shepley Junction while the Down line train is Huddersfield-bound. Pete LG99.

DMBS E51541 is seen departing Leeds with the 15:35 Leeds - Skipton local service in 1983, this car was renumbered to E78790 shortly after when one of its two Rolls-Royce engines was removed. A Class 111 and Class 114 DMU formation is seen leaving Shepley station, on the Penistone to Huddersfield route, on 22nd January 1983, the last day of operation for the Clayton West branch, which diverged from the main line just to the east of here. Andrew Walker.

On a very dark January 26th 1983, Metro-Cammell power twin E50280 + E50275 loads up at March whilst working the 10.38 Doncaster - Cambridge. It was unusual to see a power twin set in East Anglia and this one was based at Leeds Neville Hill depot. Two months earlier these services had been diverted via Peterborough following closure of the joint line from March to Spalding. Gerard Fletcher.

May 1983 - and the final Huddersfield to Sheffield dmu to run via Victoria station and Nunnery Junction pulls into Penistone station. After this the service will run via Barnsley thus avoiding the time-consuming reversal at Nunnery. Andrew Walker.
