Class 111 cars E78709 E78959 (left) are awaiting departure with a local service to York, probably running via Selby. Its car numbers in the 78XXX series show that each has had one of its two Rolls-Royce engines removed, becoming DHS-DHBS. Meanwhile, illustrating the new order, an unidentified Class 141 railbus (right) awaiting departure to Leeds in pre-electrification days - this unit would have still been new at this date, and carries original white and green livery. The first production railbus class, their first few years were beset with mechanical problems, though their reliability improved upon refurbishment in the late 1980s. However, they were all withdrawn by 1997 after a relatively short career with BR, though most were exported for further use... three units have been preserved. Graeme Phillips Collection.
