In typical British summer weather with the rain falling steadily a class 115 4-car DMU set waits to start the Fakenham & Dereham Railway Society "Bucks & Oxon Freighter" railtour from London Marylebone as the 09.25 to London Broad Street on 14/07/84. The tour taking in various no passenger lines in the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Greater London areas during the day. Adrian Nicholls.

A Marylebone allocated class 115 DMU set (51875 closest) is seen during a brief stop at Oxford with the Fakenham & Dereham Railway Society 'Bucks & Oxon Freighter' railtour on 14/07/84. The tour was a very civilized 8hr jaunt around the home counties starting out of London Marylebone and terminating at London Broad Street. On departure from Oxford the tour proceeded to vist the Morris Cowley branch, Didcot Milton Freight Terminal and the Brentford Town Goods branch before making its way round the North London line to Broad Street. Adrian Nicholls.
The unusual sight of a Class 115 DMU (51875 visible) in London Broad Street station on 14/07/84. It had just terminated with the Fakenham & Dereham Railway Society's "Bucks & Oxon Freighter" railtour and would then have had a lengthy ECS move to return to its home depot at London Marylebone. Alongside mixed class 501 EMU set 147 formed 75161+70161+61147 sits stabled for the weekend. Adrian Nicholls.
The Fakenham & Dereham Railway Society 'Bucks & Oxon Freighter' railtour on July 14, 1984 is seen at the rural single platform halt of Little Kimble, which even as late as 1984 still sported a large cast iron former GWR running in sign. This station on the Princes Risborough to Aylesbury line was served by 9 trains daily back then 5 up and 4 down at peak times only and a far cry from the frequent service it now enjoys as part of the Chiltern Trains network. The tour was an 8 hour trundle around the freight only backwaters of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire in a 4-car class 115 DMU. It started and finished at two different London termini having set out from London Marylebone it ended the day at London Broad Street. Adrian Nicholls.
The 4-car class 115 DMU used on the F&DRS 'Bucks & Oxon Freighter' railtour on July 14, 1984 is seen during a photo stop at the closed station of Winslow which lost its passenger service from 01/01/1968 but remained as a derelict building until it was demolished in 1989. The station still had intact platforms but by 1984 were overgrown on the freight only Oxford to Bletchley line. Adrian Nicholls.
This 4-car class 115 DMU set is seen at Quainton Road while working the F&DRS (Fakenham & Dereham Railway Society) "Bucks & Oxon Freighter" railtour covering the rural backwaters and freight only delights of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire on July 14, 1984 . The tour was a very sociable one having departed London Marylebone at the civilised time of 09.25 to make a large circuit to the North West of the capital before returning to terminate at London Broad Street at 17.10. The tour was allotted 30mins at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre located at Quainton Road which given its size and on both sides of the line was woefully inadequate as I recall. Most of the day seemed to be spent covering the lengthy freight only line from Aylesbury to Fenny Stratford before retracing the route to take the former L&NWR line to Oxford via Bicester. Other branches visited included Morris Cowley, Milton Freight Terminal at Didcot and the Brentford Town branch. Adrian Nicholls.
On a very grey summers day a 4-car class 115 DMU set is seen during a lunch break layover at Quainton Road on the Fakenham & Dereham Railway Societies "Bucks & Oxon Freighter" railtour on 14 July 1984. The former Metropolitan & Great Central Joint Railway station had lost its public service on 4/3/1963 but was located at the heart of the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre which occupied land and sidings on either side of what became the Aylesbury to Bletchley freight only line. It was used for occasional excursion trains and visiting railtours and for a period in the 1980's was served by a shuttle from Aylesbury on Bank Holidays for passengers visiting the railway centre. Adrian Nicholls.
A Class 115 Derby 4-car DMU with 51863 + 59756 (DMBS + TC) closest at Aylesbury with the 08:20 to Marylebone on 20-7-84. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.
