Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, on 10th April 1976. The Great Western Railway station at Stratford remained intact into the mid-1970s when the Down platform buildings were demolished. The covered footbridge remained and a Birmingham Moor Street-bound dmu waits alongside it. At this time the line south to Honeybourne and Cheltenham was still open for freight. However shortly afterwards a derailment at Winchcombe gave British Railways an excuse to close the through line completely. The closest vehicle, a DMBS, is marked as set P355 and is presumably 50854, transferred from Laira to Tyseley a few weeks previously. Pete LG99.
A Class 116 DMU heads away from Solihull station in mid-June 1976. The DMBS is not carrying the usual Tyseley set number in the cab window but seems to be a recent transfer from further south judging by the remains of a set number under the drivers window and lack of destination blind and is presumably 50854. The final port of call on the 16th September 1979 NREA 'shed bash' was to bag the DMU sets stabled at Rhymney. Viewed from the now demolished island platform, disused for many years, refurbished Derby Works class 116 high density suburban triple set C315 (W50855-W59363-W50908), eventually forming a Cardiff service stands in Rhymney station, in the initial but short-lived white/blue stripe livery with brown underframe.
