Class 116 53850 is the leading car of these 2 sets which formed the 17.25 Peterborough - Birmingham on 9th August 1983. The view is taken looking east and features the still active dispatch yard for Stewart and Lloyds Bromford Bridge pipe works. The train is passing the site of Birmingham's Bromford Bridge horse racing course which was sold off for industrial use and housing. The pipe works closed and the sidings are now a container store. In refurbished white with blue stripe livery, a Derby built Class 116 three-car DMU with Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50851 leading (TS508 presumably also contains 59376 + 50904), was passing over Barnt Green Junction as it diverged from the former Midland Railway Birmingham to Bristol main line with a Four Oaks to Redditch service on September 5th 1981. The short Redditch branch is 4.73 Miles in length from its junction at Barnt Green. Martyn Hilbert.

A Tyseley depot Class 116 three-car suburban DMU in refurbished white with blue stripe livery and complete with West Midlands PTE branding just behind the cab door, was coupled to a three-car BRCW Class 104 DMU, stood at Manchester Victoria with a 'Rocket 150' shuttle service to Rainhill on May 26th 1980. The leading car was Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50852. The DMU was stood in platform 11 which once connected Victoria and Exchange stations and was the longest platform in the UK at 2,238ft (682m). The frequent Rocket 150 shuttles to and from Manchester Victoria that ran before and after the cavalcade at Rainhill, utilised both local and 'borrowed' DMU sets to move the crowds. Martyn Hilbert.
