A Class 120/101/101 formation at Prestwick, circa August / September 1986. The DMBC seems to be missing a digit from its set number, Ayr had many 5xx sets at the time (the formations changed frequently). Note it also still has 'EP' under the left cab window, and it has oval buffers. Although carrying just set number 52, this is set 520 formed of 53711 + 59046 + 53749. Andrew McConnell.
Class 120 set 521 heads out of Paisley Gilmour Street towards Glasgow, 53730 closest. It has a Class 101 centre car (59127). Circa 1986. Andrew McConnell.

With two brake vehicles in the formation, set 522 (53744 + 59558 + 53706) leaves Haymarket with the 16:24 Edinburgh - Glasgow Central service on August 23, 1986. Hamish Stevenson.

ScotRail hybrid d.m.u. (53724 (120) on the rear + 59303 (101) + 51240 (101)) departs Ayr with the 11.00 Ayr to Girvan train, 22-11-1986. A classic smoky DMU departure, not long before Class 156 Sprinters took over. Gordon Thomson.
Class 120 + 108 near Paisley Gilmour Street Station, circa 1986. A class 108 leads a Swindon Cross Country out of Paisley on their journey towards the Ayrshire coast. This was the first time I saw a 108 in Scotland in modern times and its arrival (along with the Class 120s and other units) was one of the first visible signs of the start of the influx of DMUs from other regions to cover for the Class 107s during their temporary withdrawal with driving axle problems. The set number on the 120 appears to read 528, so the closest car should be 53722. Andrew McConnell.
