This is obviously a Branch Line Society railtour! Swindon Cross-Country car 51787 really could not have travelled further down the branch to Girvan Goods on the second day of the "Ayrshire Wanderer" tour on 30 August 1981. A few weeks later this car would be transferred to England (at Derby Etches Park). Jeremy Chapter.
The 1981 BLS Scottish Tour was the Ayrshire Wanderer which ran in two parts. The Sunday tour (30 August) started and finished at Ayr and here we are at Girvan Goods. For some reason we spent ages here, probably due to awaiting a path on the Stranraer line where we were headed next, so I put the time to good use and walked much further away from the train to take my shot. It was formed of 51787/59685/51529. Alistair Ness.

The Sunday tour (on 30 August, formed 51787 + 59685 + 51529) started and finished at Ayr and here we are as far as you can get at Stranraer harbour. The mileage men were all crammed into the front coach to get the last drop but Alan and I elected to forego the scrum and walk down to take our pics. Alistair Ness.
On the second day of the Branch Line Society's "Ayrshire Wanderer" railtour, August 30th 1981, a mixed formation set was used. The leading end here is Class 120 Swindon-built "cross-country" car 51787, the trailer is a similar former buffet car (59685) and the far end is a Metro-Cammell class 101 car (51529). This was taken at Barrhill station. Jeremy Chapter.

SC51788 at Perth on 8th September, 1975. An example of a negative I never thought worthy of printing in 1975, the unit was a mere 15 years out of Swindon Works. I think I took it because it was on the rarely used middle line between these platforms, Today the image has an historical context that I didn't envisage in my last year as a teenager! Arnie Furniss.
Set 302 leads a 6-car set out of Elgin in the late 1970s, probably led by 51788. Norman Smart.
