Standing at the remote Bearley Junction station is W55003, one of the class 122 Gloucester built units based at Tyseley. The train was the 10.00 Stratford upon Avon to Leamington service on 31/12/1979. The electric tail lights were not used st this time and the trusty oil lamp provided the legal illumination. Bearley Junction was the station where the long closed line to Alcester via Great Alne started. Geoff Dowling.

Class 122 Eastern Region route learner TDB975309 stabled at Doncaster, date unknown. The formed 55008 was in departmental use from 1974 to 1982. It has had a gas cylinder box added to the right of the left hand bogie, probably to allow a cooker or boiler on board. Tiered seating has been added to both ends, rising towards the centre of the vehicle. The seats are in the style of that used on the Derby Lightweights with the grabrail behind the headrolls, possibly reclaimed from withdrawn vehicles. Almost all the doors have had the handles removed, and the destination boxes have been removed from the roof domes. Stuart Mackay Collection.

1958-built class 122 Gloucester RC&W Co "bubble car" TDB975023 (ex-W55001) had been transferred to departmental stock as a training unit as early as 1969 and was allocated to Reading, although used from other Western Region depots also. On an unrecorded April date in 1980 it was photographed just south of East Croydon. This was conceivably in connection with the introduction of the Manchester to Brighton inter-regional service which may have started with the summer timetable this year. Jeremy Chapter.
