Inter-City DMU set L711 (presumably 52091 closest) is seen in Hereford yard in 1976 after a failure. These sets appeared to be on their last legs, so I was surprised when they were sent North to join the Trans-Pennine units. John Crooks.
A Class 123 (set L711, presumably 52091) in the yard at Hereford in 1976 after a failure. John Crooks.
The "Inter-city" DMUs had a short tenure on the Cardiff - Crewe line. By the time they were re-allocated to Cardiff they were on their last legs, and loco-hauled substitutions became common - one such set of coaches being formed from the centre cars from these sets. Here, one is dumped in Hereford yard, presumably after a failure. It looks like the Stirling - Newton Abbot Motorail is passing...! John Crooks.

A wet day at Hereford circa 1976 with a Crewe - Cardiff train formed of two Swindon "Inter City" units, set L707 would be allocated to Cardiff by this time, despite the L-series set number. John Crooks.

1976 was famous for the amazing Summer but March was a bit grim as seen on the 12th at Cardiff. L711 is arriving (presumably 52091 at the front), in the set was 59823 and completed the set for me! Remember when they kept dmu's together? The loco, by deduction, is probably 47504. It doesn't really matter at this distance in time. It's Cardiff and it's 42 years ago! Arnie Furniss.
A class 37 is collecting a failed Class 123 unit (thought to be L711 / 52091) from the wall siding at Hereford in August 1976. These units seemed to be on their last legs, and I was surprised when they went to the Eastern Region, rather than the scrapyard...! John Crooks.
