In an age when railtour participants were deemed to be able to use their common sense, Trans-Pennine class 124 DMU with Motor Composite E51952 leading stands (an hour late) at Bevercotes Colliery with the RCTS "Bevercotes Collier" railtour on 13 April 1982. Some may recognise that the bearded gentleman in the foreground is the late General Secretary of the Branch Line Society, Norman ("Gas") Hill. The cabs were designed by E G Wilkes (who also had influence on the Glasgow "Blue Trains" and the units were built at Swindon Works in 1960. Trans-Pennine services commenced in January 1961.
