The slide recorded the location as the east side of North Dock, Newport, however this image https://www.transporttreasury.com/p129223484/h801670B5 notes it as Tyndall Street, Cardiff. Two Norwich allocated 105s in Reedham station. On the left is Class 101 set 105. 53321 is thought to be closest, on the right is Class 105 set 33. The DTCL is E54447, which dates it to circa June 1985 - June 1986, it has Yarmouth on the destination blind. Stuart Mackay Collection.

A colourful scene at Glasgow Central on a late afternoon of 29th August 1986 sees Units of classes 101 105 and 120 combined in one set and all with different liveries! Set 454 ran around for a while like this. It is coupled to a blue and grey 101 and alongside another Strathclyde liveried 101 101321. Steve Robinson.
Amazingly by 1988 it had survived whilst other units succumbed around it. It also transfered to Newton Heath and obtained a set number N699. Here it is seen at Stockport in the centre road awaiting it's next call to duty. 13th August 1988. By this time it was a real celebrity and had a loyal band of followers including myself. Steve Robinson.

Birmingham New Street was a very different place in the late 1950's. In this photograph a very new looking Metro-Cammell DMU, later class 101, is just leaving for Lichfield. On the left 10202 is ready to depart for London, it has a been re-liveried from the original black into "Express Locomotive green" although the name, "tin-can", written in the dirt on the side does add an individual touch. Period touches include the signal box and mechanical signals, and the Brylcreemed trainspotter in shorts with his father the background has of course totally changed, if this angle were repeated today the skyline would have the Rotunda in it and the huge white arch over the new Bull Ring shopping centre. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith circa 1959. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.
One of the stylish class 124 diesel units is about to speed through Wennington Station whilst working the 09.33 Leeds - Morecambe train on the 18th September 1982. Geoff Dowling.
A Metro-Cammell Class 101 has just terminated at Haltwhistle with the 15.08 from Newcastle on 08/06/1981. The scene is a delightful pocket of railway history. On the left the little station goods yard is in use and has a coal conveyer by a short siding. On the right all sidings are present as is a North Eastern water column. The station has the original foot bridge and a large signal box that also controlled the junction for the Alston branch. The foreground has a rather large corrugated iron shed. Geoff Dowling.
50351, a Gloucester class 100 DMBS easily identified by the partial number on the headstock, awaits it's next run to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Once a grand station Llandudno station has fallen on hard times, gradually taken apart as it's structure weakens. The centre drive that once had fine horses and carriages in it now plays host to a Rail Express parcels Commer van and a Hillman Avenger. It is 15.50, 04/07/1981. Geoff Dowling.
51439 in blue and grey is leading a blue and white DTCL as they make their Haltwhistle stop on 8th June 1981, the train is the 14.45 Newcastle - Carlisle. The large signal box is because this was the junction for the line to Alston, the stub of which is just behind the rear car. Meeting the train is a Ribble Bristol RELH/ECW coach, the replacement for the Alston service. Geoff Dowling.
A Derby Heavyweight DMU in Barrow Haven station. Date unknown, probably late 1950s. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A Class 101 twin set in Haltwhistle station. Newcastle is on the destination blind, likely on a service from Carlisle. Orange Tynerail names are on the cab so this was likely taken in 1971. Stuart Mackay Collection.
