Thick snow has carpeted the Hope Valley line at Edale on 28th January 1984. Adding to the scene at Edale is Class 123 E52097 leading a mixed Swindon-built DMU formation, working the 10.10 Manchester to Hull service. Geoff Dowling.
Basking at Beeston. Standing in a patch of welcome sunlight Class 120 M50657 is the rear car of the 09.11 Nottingham to Derby service on 22/08/1981. Beeston station was built in 1847 by the Midland Railway, the single storey station building with its intricate gables is a joy and the later addition of the ridge and furrow awning fits in well with the character of the building, the same cannot be said for the concrete footbridge however. Two of Tyseleys collection of single car units, 55004 and 55009, are seeming to struggle away from Claverdon station, the train was the 12.25 Leamington to Stratford-upon-Avon service on 21/02/1987. Claverdon is a depressing sight, the roadside booking office is closed as is the waiting room on the one remaining platform. The whole station site is a mess of snow flattened grass. Geoff Dowling.
An everyday scene at Birmingham New Street in the early 1970s, trainspotters relax as the mundane sight of a DMU fails to excite. Peter never bothered to date diesel and electric pictures and this was more of a general scene anyway. I would suggest around 1972. Image taken Peter Shoesmith. Two Class 117 DMUs in Edinburgh Waverley. Closest is 117311, presumably 51352 + 59500 + 51376. The slide process date was 9 December 1998, so possibly taken circa November 1998. This DMBS had been earlier been in set 117314, which could explain the larger gap before the second 1 - it looks like the four has been partially removed leaving the part that looks like a 1.
