An official image (Derby Works negative 58/735) showing the first class saloon in a BRC&W DMCL (E50551) from a four-car set taken at Cleobury Mortimer on the Tenbury Wells branch circa September 1958. These sets for the Eastern Region had a DMCL at both ends, one originally had a first class section with smoking, the other was non-smoking. British Railways.

An official image (Derby Works negative 58/731) showing underframe items on the number two side of a power car from a four-car set. Taken at Cleobury Mortimer on the Tenbury Wells branch circa September 1958. Upper left is a Smiths heater, beneath is a vacuum reservoir and the electrical box to its right is the heater relay/control box (meaning the heating controls were of the through train type). The lighter coloured box on the right contains the relays that operate the throttle motors, gearboxes and final drive. British Railways.

127 DMU

A class 127 DMU, with car M51642 nearest the camera, stands at St Pancras station. I would date this to around 1982,as the wires are in place for the new class 317 service, which was delayed for a while due to a BR/ASLEF dispute. Curly42.

115 DMU

The old order at Marylebone station, when Class 115 DMUs ruled the local services. Undated, but most probably mid 1980s. Curly42.

101 DMU

A two-car Class 101 DMU at Wrexham Central in June 1984. Curly42.

120 DMU

A Class 120 Swindon Cross-Country DMU passes Cardiff Canton probably in the mid-1980s. The suburban vehicle on the right is probably a Class 117. Locos on shed include 37 240 and 56 040 "Oystermouth". Curly42.

105 DMU

Class 105 D.M.U. vehicle M50392 pictured in the early 1980s, and appears to be alongside Bletchley depot. It was withdrawn from there in January 1981. Eddie Knorn adds: From memory it hit something at Watford Junction in 1980/81, leading to the damage seen here. The Class 105s on the branch (and Bedford - Bletchley line) were displaced by Class 104s from Autumn 1981, so were mostly withdrawn at that time. Note the second passenger window has three transfers on it: "FIRST", triangular NO SMOKING and a circular No Smoking below that. The "FIRST" is incorrect as this vehicle was second class only, but as this and the triangular label were "fired in" onto the glass, they could not be scraped off. I suspect that a broken window meant the use of any piece of glass that fitted. Curly42.

100 DMU

A class 100 D.M.U. at New Mills Central, most probably 1980 or 1981. Arnie Furniss adds - That's the tail lamp from the inbound working. The driver has changed ends in the tunnel that was the sole remnant of the Hayfield branch and has brought the train into the platform for the return working to Manchester. The guard will now place the tail lamp at the other end as it's easier than doing it in the tunnel! Curly42.

122 DMU

In September 1987 Gloucester Horton Road traincrew were road learning between Newport and Glascoed, with a view to working the M.O.D. ammunition trains, due to the closure of Severn Tunnel depot. The daily trips were made with route learning vehicle 975540, a class 122 dmu, formerly 55016. The unit is seen here stabled at Glascoed. Curly42.

124 DMU
