Last Days. Mixed 105 376 (105-107-107) rolls into Houston and Crosslee station. A view from Barochan Road and a solitary passenger awaits the returning Kilmacolm to Glasgow service, Friday 07 January 1983. One wonders if they knew there would be no trains on Monday? There were nearby road signs for a local hospital, which may have been Merchiston House, behind the trees on the left. alicia hartman.

Last Days. Cravens E51493 at Glasgow Central having arrived as part of a late afternoon working from Kilmacolm along with its Derby partners. An old notebook suggests this is probably Cravens DMBS E51493 + Derby TSL Sc59790 + Derby DMBS Sc52004 which was used on Kilmacolm services on 04 January. Homeward bound commuters seem to be drifting along the then Platform 13 for another service, past the 'Front Train Beyond This Point' board in the distance. This would now be Platform 15 at Central. Instamatic Interludes. Derby Set 155 on 14:15 (Su) Glasgow Central - Carlisle working at Kilmarnock. There were a couple of return workings on a Sunday - including this and an evening service. A change from the usual weekday locomotive hauled Carlisle services. These Sunday DMU workings occasionally produced LM Derby Lightweight sets - but never when a camera was available. A DMU formation of at least three sets is seen at Newport in mid-1982 with 'Special' on the destination blind. A two-car Met-Camm in refurbished livery leads a two-car Class 108 in plain blue, followed by what could be a Blackpool white stripe Class 104. Michael Mensing.

The 6.0pm Wellington - Leamington Spa service is seen passing over Lapworth troughs on July 29 1962. It is formed of Tyseley set 323 with DMBS W50055. Michael Mensing.

Two refurbished Class 116 DMUs arrive into Lay station in the summer of 1977. Several doors are wide open towards the centre of the formation despite there being at least two coach lengths to go before the train stops. At the front is set TS526, presumably 50070 + 59026 + 50095. Michael Mensing.

A Class 117 set arrives into Taffs Well station in early 1982. The DMBS is W51338, so it is presumably set C451 with 59371 + 51380 which would be transferred to Bristol in mid-May for the start of the summer timetable. Michael Mensing.

Class 116 set C315 (W50905 and presumably 59363 + 50855) departs from Taffs Well station in early 1982, with Cardiff Central on the destination blind. A Class 117 sits in the platform, thought to be set C451 with 51380 visible. Michael Mensing.

met-camm-lightweight DMU

A Met-Camm publicity image that was used in several of their trade adverts such as celebrating 300, 500 and 600 diesel railcars supplied. It shows an Eastern Region Met-Camm Lightweight set with Lowestoft on the destination blind, location unknown, circa early 1956. It seems to be a posed shot (and so not necessarily in East Anglia) - there are no passengers on board and unless the track in the foreground is out of use it is on the wrong line for the driver to be at this end. The colour of the seats can be clearly seen in the DTS(L), maroon moquette and tan vinyl. Metropolitan Cammell.

Blackburn is a station that has changed beyond all recognition at platform level since this image on 22/08/85 showing a trio of Calder Valley class 110 power twin DMU's are seen arriving with train 1E11 the 13.05 Preston to Leeds. The one time grand 1888 built L&YR (Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway) station with its twin span trainshed roof and large yellow brick buildings was all swept away in 2000 when a new more modern station replaced it. The original frontage at street level survived in part being grade II listed but everything seen here was removed. Adrian Nicholls.

Catching the last rays of winter sunshine hybrid Class 101 DMU set C853 formed 51799+59694+51808 with a 'Calder Valley' class 110 centre coach is seen waiting custom at Newport (Gwent) with train 2B28 the 14.48 Chepstow to Cardiff Central on 01/12/87. Adrian Nicholls.

Taken on 30/09/85, the first full day of electric services south of Rock Ferry to Hooton the one time Chester to Rock Ferry DMU service was thus cut back to Hooton. A Chester allocated 2-car 'Met-Cam' set is seen soon after arrival with the 12.47 from Chester. From this date until MerseyRail electrification to Chester the DMU shuttle used the Helsby line platform to turn back in while the EMU's used the former GWR/LMSR joint line mainline platforms. Even by this date the platform to the right was out of use being part of the run round for freights arriving from the Chester line destined for Ellesmere Port and vice versa. Adrian Nicholls.

101 DMU

Norwich based class 101 DMU set no.80 is seen amid the weed choked remnants of the once larger station of Sudbury on the former Great Eastern Railway cross country line from Marks Tey to Cambridge via Haverhill. The line beyond here closed in 1967 and this station itself shut in 1990 when the branch was truncated slightly to a newer station south of this one serving Sudbury. The 'Met-Cam' DMU is waiting to depart with train 2K11 the 11.35 to Colchester on 04/08/84. Adrian Nicholls.
