379. STANDARD UNITS OF 57 FT. STOCK.  (Contd.)

(b) Destination Indicators

Agreed in principle that, for the Watford-St.Albans units, side destination boards should be fitted, and Mr.Stanley will arrange for the unit at present in Derby Works to be so fitted.

(c) Rolls Royce Engines

Mr.Stanley will ensure that the seating arrangements for the four 2-car sets with Rolls-Royce engines being built by Metro-Cammell for Manchester No.1 Scheme are in accordance with the seating required for that scheme.

Mr.Larkin will look into the question of the delivery of the Rolls Royce engines.

Mr.Harrison's letter of 9th November regarding an experiment with a set of Rolls Royce engines installed under a 2-car set authorised to be built at Derby considered, and it was noted that this is a new project additional to the Rolls Royce engines being fitted on the two 4-car sets from Metro-Cammell.

(d) Seating arrangements

 (i) Birmingham C.& W.Company.

Noted - that the Birmingham C.& W.Company have agreed to increase the length of the first class passenger compartment nearest to the driver's compartment from 11'4" to 11'7" by re-positioning the cross partition.

(ii) Number of seats in first class compartments

The Chairman said that the General Manager, after inspection of a unit for the Birmingham (Part 1) scheme fitted with 12 first class seats, considered that the leg room for first class passengers was insufficient.  The Committee, after inspecting a compartment fitted with 12 first class seats, decided that 9 seats befitted in first class sections of all future standard units on the London Midland Region whether built at Derby or by contractors.  To avoid delay in production it was decided that the design of first class seat now being fitted, which is smaller than the West Cumberland type, be utilised until present stock is exhausted, after which the larger type is to be fitted.
