Preliminary report already considered and final report progressing satisfactorily.
Preliminary reports already considered and final reports progressing satsfactorily. Messrs. Gould, Stanley and Finlayson are jointly considering the H.P. requirements for these schemes with the possible alternatives of two vehicles each with one 238 H.P. Rolls Royce engine or with one motor car with 2 200 H.P. B.U.T. engines and a trailer.
The Chairman asked for this scheme to be submitted for authorisation as soon as possible. Delivery of units will commence in April, 1958, and it is essential that the provision of maintenance facilities should be proceeded with as a matter of urgency.
Mr.Nicholls circulated copies of revised costings of this scheme, showing an increased annual cost, diesel compared with steam, of £42,000. The Chief Commercial Manager anticipates increased revenue of £100,000 per annum, resulting in an improvement in net revenue of £58,000 but it was pointed out that these services were at present being operated at a loss and it was doubtful whether even with diesel operation they would be in balance. The joint report is being prepared and will be circulated for departmental approval very shortly.
