The Chairman said that a request has been received from the B.T.C. for all diesel multiple unit services in operation or projected to be reviewed and where losses are heavy and the prospects of improvement slight, to determine whether their continuance or introduction is really justified.
Matter is being referred to Messrs.Arkle and Harris with the request for a report at an early date, and it was agreed that Mr.Nicholls initiate the collation of the financial estimates which are available and circulate to other departments concerned and a report to be prepared for the General Manager.

Mr.Nicholls reported that the Railway Accountants' Committee have had the Langridge report. It is understood that in so far as this dealt with the segregation of schemes in the hallf-yearly financial statement, the Accountants support the L.M.R. that this is impracticable as a regular feature but consideration of the eport as a whole is not yet complete.
The Chairman said that a request has been received from the B.T.C. for a particular scheme on the L.M.R. to be selected for back checking and it has been decided that the Bury-Bacup scheme shall be investigated. Accountant has matter in hand with Director of Traffic Services.
