580.  GENERAL MATTERS OF POLICY  (Cont'd)

8.  Units out of service for Works attention  (Contd.)

The matter has been put to the Director of Traffic Services and the Carriage & Wagon Engineer, it being stressed that, although the B.T.C. have laid down a figure of 15% spare vehciles, such a proportion of spares must be considered a maximum.  Mr.Gould suggested that a meeting be arranged between representatives of all departments concerned to decide on a policy for the stoppage of vehicles for Works attention.

581.  RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

1.  Design

All outstanding questions of design have now been resolved and delivery of the vehicles for the L.M.R. is expected by the end of July 1958.

2.  Single manning

Difficulties have arisen in regard to Guards collecting tickets from passengers alighting at Bullgill Station and the Trade Union will not agree to any change so far as this station is concerned.  The question of guards issuing and collecting tickets is under consideration by the Railway Staff Joint Council (Traffic Section) and the matter has not yet been resolved.  The Director of Traffic Services considers there are no sections of the line on the L.M.R. which would be suitable for operation by a one man rail bus.

3.  Proposals for employment of rail buses on L.M.R.

As a result of a proposal to withdraw the passenger service on the Northampton-Blisworth line, only three rail buses will be required on the L.M.R. instead of four on order.  The Scottish Region can find remunerative employment for the fourth rail bus and the Chief Carriage & Wagon Engineering officer has been asked for his approval to its transfer to Scotland.

Mr.Nicholls will submit revised financial assessment.

4.  Banbury - Bletchley Service

Noted that the Area Board and B.T.C. have agreed to the withdrawal of the passenger service between Banbury and Buckingham and the Director of Traffic Services is putting the matter to the T.U.C.C.
