The possibility of the use, on the Buxton - Millers Dale branch, of the units which will be displaced is under consideration, and Mr.Finlayson will look into the question of the haulage of through passenger coaches from the main line trains to and from Buxton.

582.  INTER-CITY SERVICES

1.  Liverpool, Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and Hull Scheme (L.N.W. route)

Mr. Gould reported that investigations in conjunction with the North Eastern Region are progressing satisfactorily.

583.  SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS

1.   Minutes of meeting of Sub-Committee held on 1st April and 5th June 1958 noted.

2.  Ryecroft Shed (Birmingham Part 2 Scheme). - Mr.Gould said it was hoped to commence the complete diesel scheme on either November 10th 1958 or January 5th, 1959.  Mr.Butland stated that draft plan and estimates for the diesel depot at Ryecroft are now being prepared but he considers it unlikely that the full facilities will be available for the scheme to commence on November 10th.  In the meantime temporary arrangemants are covering the substitution-for-steam service which commenced on June 9th.

Mr.Varley said the Ryecroft scheme plan could be agreed at once, the sidings at the west side of the depot not being required.  Mr.Butland said in that case the estimate could be ready in two weeks.

3.  Outstabling of units alongside platforms. - Mr.Finlayson reported that this matter has been further discussed and the problems arising from the stabing of units at platforms have been resolved.

4.  Carriage Washing Machines. - Noted that the washing machine at the Eastern Region Lincoln depot is not yet complete.

Mr.Finlayson stated that the C.M.& E.E. has in hand the design of a new type of washing machine.
