631.  RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

(1)  Employment of three rail buses on L.M.Region

Preliminary report, prepared on request of Commission, on technical, operating and commencial aspects of operation of buses to date noted.  Agreed that, in light of the report, further vehicles of this type should not be introduced.  Also it was intended that the buses should continue to be operated on their present services as there were no other branches on the L.M.Region on which they could be usefully employed, but if any of the other Regions were desirous of extending the introduction of the buses, there would be no objection to the withdrawal of the three buses in operation on the L.M.Region.

Mr.Butland produced Hallade diagrams showing the poor riding qualities of the diesel buses.

(2)  Banbury - Bletchley Service

Notes that the case for the withdrawal of the passenger service was going forward for staff consultation, the Western Region being involved.
