697.  DIESEL MULTIPLE UNIT DE LUXE PULLMAN SERVICE MANCHESTER - ST.PANCRAS

(a) Utilisation of stand-by train

The Chairman said that the General Manager had agreed that the Secretary General's reactions be awaited to the report sent to him.  Mr.Blee had, however, raised certain further points, an the Committee agreed the replies as follows:-

1.  The power car at each end is semi-permantently coupled to the car next to it, which has traction motors mounted on the bogie adjacent to the power car.

Each "second" car also carries the Rolls Royce auxiliary power equipment underneath the body and there are eight power etc. cables between the power and "second" car at each end.

The third car from each end is a trailer car but has no driving compartment and it appears that a unit of three cars could only be driven in on direction.  It appears therefore that each train of six cars must be regarded as one unit for maintenance purposes.
