April 1978, and a Class 120 set sits facing 25 091 in Aberbeen Ferryhill depot. This is probably 51790. Mike Cooper.
A freshly-outshopped class 120 set - 51790 (leading)/59681/51782 - stands at the eastern end of St Rollox works yard on Sunday 10.9.78, awaiting departure back to Inverness the following day. Note that, unlike some of the others of its kind at Inverness, the DMBC retains its second class seating area ahead of the guard's van and has not had it converted to mail and parcels space. Notice too that the buffet is both labelled as such on the coach side and carries a red stripe above the buffet windows - not so common on DMU's. Leonard Rogers.
Two class 120 dmus at Inverness after arrival from Aberdeen on 7/10/78. Set 304 is recently ex-works in blue and grey, the other set is still in all-over blue. The closest vehicle, DMS SC51790, has an opening 'stretcher' window as the first passenger window. Stephen Burdett.
In a snowy Inverness stands class 120 set 304 (51790, presumably with 59681 + 51782) and used on the Aberdeen service in February 1979. The closest vehicle, 51790, has a 'stretcher' window. Ian Buck.
Class 120 DMU set 304 (presumably SC51790 closest) in Inverness station on 11 February 1980. Brian Daniels.
Class 120 DMU set 304 (presumably SC51790 closest) passing Loco Box at Inverness on 11 February 1980. Brian Daniels.
Class 120 DMU no. C616 is seen at Weymouth in August 1981. W51790 leads (with the first passenger window being a 'stretcher' window), presumably with 59681 + 51782. These had been Scottish vehicles until the previous year. Graeme Phillips Collection.
Class 120 DMU set C616 with 51790 closest in Bristol Temple Meads station. Date unknown, circa early 1980s. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Class 120 DMU set C616 at Church Stretton, date unknown. Closest is ex-ScR DMSL W51790 with its stretcher window behind the cab, the other two vehicles are presumably 59681 + 51782. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Class 120 set W51790 (nearest camera), W59681 and W51782, approaching Whitland station, 27th August 1982. Simon Hadden.
Class 120 sitting at Pembroke Dock station, W51790 (DMSL) nearest camera. The other cars are W59681 (TSLRB) and, at the rear, W51782 (DMBC). Photo taken on 28th August 1982. Simon Hadden.
Class 120 set C616 at Tenby in July 1984. Roy Lambeth.
Swindon built class 120 DMU, Cardiff set C616 (presumably 51790 + 59681 + 51782), approaching Shelwick Junction from the Ledbury direction, with a Hereford bound service, despite what it says on the destination blind, from Worcester. May 1985. John Crooks.
Class 303 EMU number 303019 and Swindon class 120 cross-country DMU bearing set number C616 (51790 visible) at Glasgow Central on 3rd July 1986. Jonathan Hazan.
Class 120 power car 51790 from set C616 is seen here at Ayr, a long way from former home depot of Cardiff Canton, but unusually still retains the large central headlight installed for working the Central Wales Line. August 1986 Andrew McConnell.
Glasgow Central circa 10-1986. 318252 is brand new in service on the Ayrline, taking over from the old guard DMU. C616 was one of the Class 120 sets transferred from Cardiff Canton to Ayr to cover ScR DMU shortages in the mid 1980s. Andrew McConnell.
W51790 in Haymarket depot on the 8th February 1987. Originally an ScR vehicle, it had spent six years at Cardiff from 1980. It moved back north to Ayr depot in June 1986, then to HA that September, keeping its W prefix until withdrawn in March 1987. Hamish Stevenson.
Withdrawn W51790 at Aberdeen Ferryhill for component recovery on the 26th April 1987. It is missing windows and engines. Hamish Stevenson.
BR (Swindon) Cross Country DMU (later Class 120) vehicles at Inverness MPD, August 1968. Closest is No.Sc51783 (120/1 in blue with small yellow warning panel) then No.Sc59679 (179 in blue), and No.Sc51788 (120/2 in green) & Sc51790 (120/2 also in green). The DMBF seems to have a different shade (or glossier?) of blue in the centre section - was the conversion done after the vehicles had been painted into blue? Hugh Llewelyn.
Set 304 (presumably 51782 + 59681 + 51790) in the snow at Inverness in 1979. John Law.

120 driving cars in storage at Haymarket on 14th February 1987. From right to left 51782, 537737, M53706, W51790 and M51794. Graham Johnston.
