A three-car BR&CW DMU arrives into Manchester London Road led by M50496, date unknown. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Leicester Midland Platform 1 on 13th October 1974 and BRCW Class 104 dmu M50496 stands with the 13.35 to Peterborough via Oakham. The overall roof & Midland Railway awnings are still in place & the tower above the dmu is part of the 1903 Station facade on London Road. The brick building on the right is the GPO but it no longer has any connection with the railway. Pete LG99.
A Class 104 and Class 120 at Abbey Jct, Nuneaton, in 1979. Leading appears to be Etches Park based M50496. Michael Mensing.
A Class 104 DMU on Newton Heath depot, date unknown. The DMSL closest is thought to be M53496. Mike Bunker.
Two nice clean Buxton allocated class 104 sets with distinctive white cab roofs negotiate the pointwork as they enter Longsight Depot on 7 June 1985. BX491 is the leading set containing M53496 + M59137 + M53431. Chris Thorp.
There's no doubting that the independent snow plough has been out doing a successful job overnight! Buxton DMU depot on 17th February 1986 with BRCW Class 104 set BX484 (M53496 nearest to the camera) adding to the fumes in the shed. DMU depots had a unique atmosphere of their own, although I doubt that those that had to work in these conditions felt the same about it! Remember the sound of Leyland, AEC and Rolls Royce engines turning over, slip, trip and fall hazards, and the inadequate fume extraction systems in depots such as Marylebone, Leith Central, Hull Botanic Gardens, Lincoln, Chester and Corkerhill, to name but a few. Memories! Gordon Edgar.
Class 104 DMU set BX484 led by M53496 arrives at Buxton on 27 February 1986. Class 108 vehicle M52058 is on the left. An image from the Jim Freebury Railway Slide Collection. David Page.
A White roofed Buxton based BRC&W class 104 dmu BX484 (M53496, M59137, M53431) has terminated at Disley on 2nd March 1986 because of Sunday engineering works further down the line and is crossing back over to work the return service to Buxton. The line between Disley and Hazel Grove was closed every Sunday around this time for the construction of the Hazel Grove Cord. In it's last years Disley was a "Peak" hour only box, with i think 1 maybe 2 Disley peak hour expresses from Manchester Piccadilly terminating here, they were probably the only passenger trains scheduled not to stop at Stockport. Andrew J Crowther.

A peek at Peak 45 038 between two Class 104s at Scarborough on 23 July 1983. They are thought to be on 1Z11, a Merrymaker from Buxton (see image 25725), if so M53424 is on the right and M53496 on the left. Taken by John Vaughan. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A freshly painted Class 104 (with roof vents removed) leads a six-car DMU formation past Falsgrave signal box into Scarborough on Saturday 23 July 1983. The vehicles are M53431 + M59137 + M53496 / M53424 + M59207 + M53434. Note the 1Z11 in the centre cab window, this is thought to be a BR merrymaker from Buxton. Brian Daniels.
On the evening of 5 December 1984 a Glossop unit (only a few days left in traffic) and Class 104 set BX491 (53431 and presumably 59137 + 53496) are seen in Manchester Piccadilly. Chris Thorp.
